Make a Splash in Your Décor with Kitchen Splashbacks Today

A basic principle of art, architecture, and home décor is the union between form and function. Nowhere is this more evident than in the kitchen, where all three of these elements are at work. It’s an inherently creative space, one of the focal points of any home décor scheme, and an integral part of your home or restaurant’s architectural layout as well. Part of the fun of being a home or restaurant owner is finding a way to play with layout and the overall balance between form and function, and when it comes to the kitchen, that means finding items which provide some utility while adding just as much, if not more, to the space’s overall look and feel.

Splashbacks are a perfect example of this, and an affordable one to boot. Having taken off in popularity in the past few years, splashbacks are an increasingly fashionable option in terms of kitchen décor. This, then, is a quick intro to the world of splashbacks and what they can do for your kitchen setup.

What Are Splashbacks?

For those not in the know, splashbacks are a covering or coating for large kitchen surfaces such as walls or countertops. Anyone with even a little kitchen experience knows that even with the most careful cooking techniques, there’s always the potential for particles of food and water to splash against the counter. The primary function of a splashback is thus to guard your walls and countertops and keep your kitchen looking clean. Another great advantage of splashbacks in terms of your kitchen décor is the fact that, while they’re an excellent way to add a dash of colour and personality to your cooking space, they’re also generally understated as well. This is especially important given the aforementioned focus on functionality typically associated with the kitchen. As a result, while you want your kitchen to have a chic and stylish flair to it, you probably don’t want it to come across as too insistent or loud in its colouring and décor.

Glass Splashbacks

While there are many different options when it comes to kitchen splashbacks, glass has proven to be the most popular material in recent years. This is due to a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the relative ease with which glass can be coloured for décor purposes. In addition, it’s a less expensive option than other alternatives, and can likewise be easier to install. Add to that the fact that glass features are generally fantastic options when it comes to ornamenting your kitchen, and it’s not hard to see why glass splashbacks in Perth and across Australia at large are taking off.

There are two main choices when it comes to glass splashbacks, Float and Starphire Glass, both of which have their own strengths. Float Glass is closer to everyday glass options with a greener tinge due to its higher iron content, while Starphire Glass is a bit more expensive but completely clear and iron-free, thus making it easier to introduce your own colour schemes via dyeing processes.
